Along with the cooler air and the changing leaves, fall brings two wonderful things–football and new cigars. I thank the football gods every day for making this season happen in its entirety. As for some of these new cigars listed below that have already started appearing at your tobacconists, I’ll admit I haven’t had a chance to try them yet. But knowing that Omar Ortez, one of my favorite cigar makers, had his hand in blending many of them, I’m looking forward to getting a chance to light these up. Omar was obviously a very busy man this past year.
Here are a few new cigars to be on the lookout for:
H. Upmann 1844 Reserve
Embodying H. Upmann’s long tradition of fine cigar making, the H. Upmann 1844 Reserve is touted as possibly the finest H. Upmann yet, capturing everything aficionados have loved about H. Upmann cigars¬ and then some.
This, fuller-bodied smoke, crafted in the Dominican Republic, features a robust Ecuadorian Cubano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Dominican filler tobaccos. Whether you are already a regular H. Upmann smoker or not, make sure not to miss this intriguing cigar.
A. Turrent Puro Corojo
Following the overwhelming success of the A. Turrent Triple Play, which has received rave reviews including a 93 rating in Cigar Aficionado, Alejandro Turrent is at it again with the introduction of the Puro Corojo.
Carefully handcrafted in Nicaragua by acclaimed cigar makers Alejandro Turrent and Omar Ortez, the A. Turrent Puro Corojo is an all-corojo smoke. Corojo is widely known to be an expensive leaf, treasured among cigar makers, because it is delicate and difficult to grow. The result is a powerful cigar with a rich flavor and complexity that harkens back to the grand Cuban cigars of long ago.
Diamondback
Named after a card game with a cult following, the Diamondback is smooth, mild and aromatic with just a touch of sweetness. Available in 4 sizes, it is blended in Nicaragua Omar Ortez. Diamondback features a flavorful, hand-selected Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper encasing a Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. Like many of the blends Omar Ortez is famed for, the Diamondback offers an outstanding, flavorful smoke at a friendly price.
Casa de Ortez
Arguably the best affordable cigar on the market, Casa de Ortez cigars are handcrafted in Nicaragua by renowned cigar maker Omar Ortez and are offered in two strengths. Connecticut, the milder version, features a beautiful brown hand-selected Connecticut wrapper, Indonesian binder and Nicaraguan long filler. The second version, Ecuadorian Cubano is named after its rich wrapper, and is the more full-bodied of the two. These no frills, big flavor smokes come in a bundle and are quite the steal at $1.50-2.00 a stick making for a perfect everyday or anytime cigar.
Larger Ring Gauge Cigars
If you’re a fan of larger ring gauge cigars, make sure you try the monster Romeo y Julieta Magnum or the A. Turrent Puro Corojo Grand Toro. Both are a whopping 60 x 6”.
The Romeo is everything you’ve come to love about Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real cigars only bigger. And, from what I’ve heard, the A. Turrent Puro Corojo will add plenty of spice to your life.
Warlock is also releasing a 60 x 4 1/2" Short Belicoso and a 60 x 5" Magnum.
